A birthday present in time!

A true gem is hidden away on the edge of Drottningholm Park: the Chinese Pavilion. It was a birthday present from King Adolf Fredrik to his wife Queen Lovisa Ulrika in 1753.

The Queen was delighted. At that time, all things Chinese were the latest fashion and the East India trading companies brought large quantities of tea, spices, silk, porcelain and exclusive works of art to Europe. China was seen as an exotic, mythical country, and the Chinese Pavilion is the embodiment of this oriental fantasy.
