Royal Walks: The Enlightenment

Walk in the spirit of the Enlightenment! In this dramatised audio guide, we follow Queen Lovisa Ulrika on a walk through the World Heritage Site of Drottningholm Palace Park.

Lovisa Ulrika was the queen who brought Drottningholm into the modern era. She had "more knowledge and insight into the sciences than a lady needs", and wanted to be an enlightened ruler.

She surrounded herself with scientists and intellectuals. She particularly admired Carl Linnaeus, who awakened her interest in the natural sciences. Linnaeus helped to catalogue her extensive collections of natural history specimens. She started silk cultivation in Drottningholm Palace Park.

Park walk: The Enlightenment

The audio guide about the Age of Enlightenment was produced in connection with the school programme for the Drottningholm World Heritage Site, and is primarily aimed at secondary school pupils. However, it is also a fascinating guide for other age groups.

The app offers several themed park walks in Drottningholm Palace Park, including the Garden Walk, the Sculpture Walk and the World Heritage Walk. It also includes a quiz about the park. The parks are open every day of the year, 24 hours a day.
