Royal Walks
The Royal Walks app will guide you through the royal parks – either on site or from home – with descriptions of buildings, sculptures, nature, stylistic ideals and historic events.
There are park walks with various themes at the following palaces and parks:
Haga Park
Follow in the footsteps of King Gustav III and find out about his visions for the park. Many of them came to fruition, while others never made it past the drawing board. Discover an English-style park with impressive buildings: the Temple of Echo, the Copper Tents, the Turkish Kiosk and Gustav III's Pavilion. Don't miss the palace ruins – the remains of a palace that never came into being.
Ulriksdal Palace Park
Come on a historical walk through the park's various stylistic ideals: traces of the former Baroque garden, and the current English park with its shaded groves, ridges and wild trees. You can explore the area's architectural history, including both buildings that are still standing and the former masterpieces from days gone by. The app also includes the Bird Walk, showcasing Ulriksdal's rich bird life.
Royal Djurgården
Take a scenic walk on Djurgården – from Djurgårdsbron Bridge, and along the shore to the royal summer palace Rosendal. Along the way, you'll learn about the historic buildings you pass, such as Villa Lusthusporten, the Hazelius Gate, Fjeldstuen and the Skåne Mine. The app will also guide you around the Rosendal area, the sculpture park and the rich birdlife at Isbladskärret.
Tullgarn Palace Park
Discover the highlights of Tullgarn Palace Park. Find out about the varied flora and birdlife alongside the neighbouring bay. The 18th century bosquet and landscape garden were created during Prince Fredrik Adolf's time here. At Lillhamnen, you can find out more about the Russian tsar's visit in 1909, when King Gustav V and Queen Victoria welcomed their long-distance guests. There is also the Cavalier Wing, where Dr Axel Munthe had his office.
Gripsholm Castle Park
Follow in the footsteps of King Gustav Vasa at Gripsholm. The walk will take you on a historic tour around the grounds of the castle. What was the purpose of the four towers? Where was King Erik XIV imprisoned? Where were King Gustav Vasa's cannon hatches? The Royal Walks app's Vasa Walk will guide you around Vasa's magnificent castle.
The Royal Domain of Drottningholm
The park surrounding Drottningholm Palace is part of the Drottningholm World Heritage Site, and it's easy to see why. Here, you can discover Hedvig Eleonora's Baroque garden, Lovisa Ulrika and Gustav III's English park, and an intimate 18th-century garden at the Chinese Pavilion. The app will guide through you a variety of stylistic ideals, buildings, sculptures, the Enlightenment and historic events.
Walking around the Royal Palace
The Royal Walks app takes you on a historical circular walk around the Royal Palace. The tour begins a thousand years back in time with the earliest history of the palace, from the core tower and defence fortress, via a devastating palace fire, to today's magnificent palace. The tour shows all sides of the palace, including a general overview and fascinating details.
