
Masterpieces on cello and piano
British cellist Marie Macleod and Martin Sturfält, one of Sweden's leading pianists, will perform classical works in a historic setting at Gripsholm Castle.
Marie Macleod is the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's solo cellist, and has performed at concerts throughout Europe. Pianist Martin Sturfält has worked with world-leading conductors, international symphony orchestras and all of Sweden's symphony orchestras.
Marie and Martin have performed as a duo on some 150 occasions, including at major London concert halls. They have also recorded all of Mendelssohn's works for cello and piano together.
At Gripsholm Castle, they will perform works by Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Frank Bridge and Howard Ferguson.

Marie Macleod has been the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's solo cellist since 2013. She has also performed as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. Together with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, she was the soloist for Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto in 2016 and for James MacMillan's Cello Concerto in 2022. Since 2004, Marie has been a member of the Lendvai String Trio and the Aronowitz Ensemble, performing at top festivals and concert halls in Europe. She studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School, IMS Prussia Cove and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Martin Sturfält has earned a reputation for his solid interpretations of both the most famous and less common works from the piano repertoire. He has won particular recognition for his work for Swedish music, including internationally acclaimed recordings of Stenhammar and Wiklund on Hyperion Records. Martin was born in Katrineholm in 1979, and began playing the piano at the age of 4. He studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He teaches at the Junior Academy Music School, and gives regular masterclasses at festivals and summer schools.
