“A curious branch peeps in through the flap of a tent, foliage wraps around a bush in an unreadable mess and unrelenting rain turns hair into untamed worms. In my quest to capture the essence of things, only drawing can communicate what I have actually seen.
Drawing encloses the objects in an environment that gives them their contours and features. My lines guide the viewer to what I see. The things, their behaviour and intentions are seen with the same eyes, and I present a possibility for what has happened, is happening, will happen – which charges the drawing with a narrative.
With this insight, I work with a format of stories that come to me through sensory impressions formed by everyday life or dreamlike ideas. My pencil reworks these impressions into lines, which are then manifested on the paper in a world of black and white.
Whether the result is a finished illustration or a rough sketch, the visual elements are permeated by this underlying process.” […]
