HUGO WIKSTRÖM REGAN

Born 1999

"In my studies as an architecture student, I begin every design project by visiting where the building will stand and uncritically allowing my curiosity to take over. One of my strongest tools for studying and learning more about the subject of interest is to draw in pencil, because this gives me the freedom to make free associations with other study subjects. Pencil allows me to explore subjects with varying degrees of self-confidence and depth of imagery.

I need to draw in my practice as an architect, primarily to build spatial qualities without critical review. In one of my projects I have studied the Malm whale, the world’s first stuffed whale, on display in Gothenburg’s Natural History Museum, and how people interact with the whale as a spatial element in nature. In my other project, I’ve studied different animals as sources of inspiration for various elements of a residential building in Barcelona."

Master’s degree in architecture, 2024, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg
