Terpsichore

Terpsichore is the Muse of choral song and dancing. She leans forward and lifts up her garment, a typical Greek peplos, to uncover her foot. This greater freedom of movement in the marble statue has been interpreted as representing dance. However, this figure gives the impression of stumbling rather than dancing as the modern restorer placed her foot flat and not, as it should be, with only the tips of her toes touching the ground.
