Nobel Banquet 1993

The bodice of the evening gown is embroidered with jet and sequins in a paisley-like pattern. A satin ruffle at the décolletage. The black and white skirt is woven in satin with an element of dupion thread. A matching red shawl finished with balls of flowers.

Design: Nina Ricci, Paris

The Queen is wearing the Leuchtenberg Sapphire parure. The set consists of a diamond tiara with sapphires, pendant earrings with diamond-framed sapphires (originally hairpins), a diamond necklace with sapphires and nine pendant clusters. With this she is wearing a brooch of large diamonds, part of the jewels that the Empress Amalia of Brazil bequeathed to her sister, Sweden’s Queen Josefina.
